Missing Stones
Eksik Taşlar is Yiğit Bener's first novel. The story of a father (Erdinç) who had to go abroad on September 12th and his son (Devrim) searching for each other... Trying to discover his father, whose past he never knew, by putting the pieces in place one by one, Devrim learns to look at his own life and the dominant culture in Turkey from a different perspective while getting acquainted with European culture. Yiğit Bener looks at the current discussions we continue to have today through his own window, by addressing the East-West problem that we are struggling with and the reckoning with September 12 through the relationship of a father and son experiencing communication problems.
"One of the reasons for the success of Missing Stones is that Yiğit Bener knows the West and Western people as much as he knows Turkey. We do not find those 'foreigners' strange when we read them, we do not encounter translated characters, we always encounter people of flesh and blood. Missing Stones is a harmonious combination of the culture of living and the culture derived from books. I remember a line from Nâzım: 'These hands touched human hearts.' Yiğit Bener's hands also touch human hearts; the 'humane warmth' radiating from the novel is the result of Yiğit Bener's mastery in touching 'human hearts'."
