Monsieur Pain
Monsieur Pain, you are expected at Café Victor in the Latin Quarter at ten in the evening. This is a matter of life and death. Please take it seriously.
When no one can cure the hiccup attack of Peruvian poet César Vallejo, who is lying in a hospital room in Paris in the spring of 1938, the person they turn to is Pierre Pain, a follower of Franz Mesmer and an enthusiast of the occult sciences. However, when two Spanish men appear and manage to convince him not to treat the poet, Monsieur Pain finds himself in the middle of a chase through labyrinthine streets and corridors, the meaning of which he has difficulty deciphering.
Monsieur Pain reflects the dark layers of Roberto Bolaño's imagination with its misty environments and enigmatic characters that resemble Edgar Allan Poe stories.
