The things they told were so surprising and legendary that even in those heroic days, it was difficult to believe that there was such a person who combined extraordinary courage, constant luck, surprising resourcefulness and the simplicity of a child's soul. When I first heard the stories about Kamo, I thought that if I were to write them one day, no one would believe that such a person actually existed and the reader would perceive Kamo as a fictional character. Even I explained what Arabidze was saying with his revolutionary romanticism when I first heard it.

However, as is often the case, reality once again surpassed fiction with its complexity and strikingness.
