When he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in December 2006, he said: "Two years before his death, my father gave me a small suitcase full of his own writings, manuscripts and notebooks." He started his speech by saying "I would love to have my father with us today." Pamuk made a great impact all over the world with one of the most sincere and best-prepared speeches in Nobel history called "My Father's Suitcase". These included the "In Kars and Frankfurt" speech he made while receiving the Peace Prize of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association in 2006, and the "Implied Author" speech he made while receiving the Puterbaugh Prize at the University of Oklahoma in April 2006.
