Nation - State or People's Sovereignty
Jean-Jacques Rousseau gives a solid foundation to the modern concept of the state, which became evident in Thomas Hobbes: He is not content with deriving the state from the people, he identifies it with the people. The people are now sovereign.
The state adorned with the sovereignty of the people is the state that has democracy in its essence and is literally "one"; or the state called "nation-state" when the concept of nation is used instead of the concept of people. The nation-state, theorized by Rousseau and Sieyes, appears on the stage of history with the French Revolution. The "despotism of freedom" implemented by the Jacobins during a certain period of the Revolution constitutes the first example of the extreme points that the central power specific to the nation-state can go.
