Nationalization in the Classical Islamic Period
Nationalization in the Classical Islamic Period Book Description
The roots of the state crises experienced in today's Muslim societies are sought in Islam itself by some writers influenced by Orientalism. Accordingly, the theological presuppositions contained in Islam prevent people belonging to this religion from establishing stable and strong states.
Therefore, structures such as permanent bureaucracy, specialization and a legal system, which are the prerequisites for a stable state, are blocked by Islam itself.
When we look at the states that exist in Muslim societies today, we can come across many results that support this claim.
In fact, the main motivation that motivated the emergence of this book was to look at the state formation practices of the Middle Ages, which is referred to as the classical period in the book, when powerful Muslim states were established, in order to understand whether the state crises experienced by today's Muslims are inherent to Islam.
While writing this book, I focused on the ideas of Classical period Muslim writers on issues such as nationalization practices, the formation of bureaucracy, class formation, economy, intellectualism, and specialization.
I benefited not only from political philosophers, but also from travelers, geographers, bureaucrats' personal life stories and fairy tales.
While writing this book, which I hope will be useful in providing answers to today's questions, I tried to avoid ideological blindness as much as possible and describe different aspects of state formation practices in the Middle Ages - the Classical period.
