Tango and Govend / Nâzım Hikmet and Cegerxwîn. Nâzım's poetry language is Turkish, Cegerxwîn's is Kurdish. Both were born in Ottoman lands, both died in exile, and contributed to the subjectivity of what happened in the 20th century with their discursive, political and poetic stances in favor of labor and freedom. Almost everyone who has ever touched ink knows Nâzım. Cegerxwîn, on the other hand, is unknown outside of his circle of followers.
Poet, writer, critic Hayri K. Yetik compares the poems of our poets in his book Tango ile Govend / Nazım Hikmet ile Cegerxwîn, both biographically and with an analytical critique. In this context, he opens a new window to the century-long history of Turkey and Syria. He thinks that ideological and political discourses cover up the poetic truth of these poets. He meticulously tries to reveal the hidden syllogism and poetic truth of our poets, which are covered by the political veil, like an archaeological excavation.
He analyzes the Middle East in the 20th century historically and makes striking observations. He aims to reveal the poetics of Cegerxwîn and Nazım, who were able to filter poetry from the political chaos of this period dominated by chaos and violence. Only in this way can the personal tragedies and aesthetic depth of our poets be felt and made visible.
It is likely that after this book, critics and literary historians, as well as readers, will feel the need to re-read both poets. Then, there will be a need to re-read and re-write literary history.
