News Readings

We are experiencing an age in which we cannot keep up with the pace of diversification in the media environment. In particular, discussions about the emergence of social media as a new form and its share in (new) social movements such as the Arab Spring, Occupy Wall Street, Gezi and similar ones now push us to approach the media with a different understanding. While the possibilities of accessing "information" are becoming more diverse and differentiated, it requires a separate effort to find the correct information and news from all kinds of manipulation, disinformation and "trolling" activities. Considering the importance of the relationship between information and power, the discovery of the current state of the media has perhaps become more essential than ever. News Readings compiled by Yasemin İnceoğlu and Savaş Çoban represent the steps of a new understanding effort that deals with the media and "news" from various aspects, in an environment where disinformation and the pressure of the government are creating dust and smoke, accompanied by current debates.
