Modernism, City and Society Book Description
It is not possible to read the urban phenomenon independently of modernity. Because sociology is also preoccupied with the human and people or society profile of modernity. The city is the name of the spatial manifestations of these communities and societies. Therefore, we will not be able to develop a perception of society disconnected from modernity, and the urban vision narrative will remain empty.
Urban sociology, as a discipline, emerged in the West in the late 19th century. Although it shares the same ground with the disciplines of sociology, it was shaped by aspects that differ from these disciplines. The main problem or focus of urban sociology is the structural features and problems of modern urban societies. It reads the social texture through the shaping of the city and the phenomenon of people and society in the new structuring. Within the field of urban sociology, researchers, with a certain methodological preference, examine the social groupings that occur in the city, the relations of these groups with each other, their interactions and conflicts, urban institutionalization and organizational forms, the social connections of demographic distribution and the problems of adaptation of these groups to urban social life, the phenomenon of migration to cities. Topics such as problems and urban transformation projects are included.
