If a person has not been able to do translation for more than fifty years, even though he has been involved in other activities such as editorship, publishing house and magazine management, and especially journalism, if he has not translated the book that comes his way, and if he has translated nearly ninety books in half a century, even if he has been careful to rely on a certain taste, he can be called a translator. Notes of a “Translator” bears witness to the adventure of Celâl Üster, who stands out as a cultural person and man of letters as well as a master translator, for more than half a century in this cause. In the memoirs part of this adventure, he tells about his apprenticeship days when he first lost himself in "translatorship", his training under a master like Memet Fuat, and how he insisted on his translation work in the difficult conditions of Mamak Prison.
