On a Happy Life - On the Shortness of Life
Seneca (towards 4 BC - AD 65): In addition to being a statesman and philosopher, he is one of the most important rhetoric masters and tragedians in Roman history. Seneca, whom his father wanted to raise as a politician and orator, dealt with state affairs for a while and eventually devoted himself to his favorite job, namely philosophy. He wrote many thought texts, letters and tragedies containing Stoic teachings. In On the Happy Life and On the Shortness of Life, Seneca discusses the obligation to live in harmony with nature from various angles and by giving examples from the period in which he lived. These two inspiring texts also contain answers to questions about what kind of understanding of life Stoicism recommended in the Roman period.
