On Economics - Oikonomikos - Hasan Ali Yücel Classics Book Description Xenophon (ca. 432 BC - 355 BC): Athenian writer, historian, commander. He took a stand against democratic government, blaming his city's defeat in the Peloponnesian War on the lack of discipline resulting from democracy. He fought on the side of Sparta against the Athenians in the Battle of Koroneia in 394 BC. Thereupon, he was accused of treason and exiled, and all his property was confiscated.
