One Way
"I met the hero of this novel in Üsküdar Pasakapisi Prison in 1951. He was a convicted forger over the age of fifty. I will not say that I told exactly this man in the novel. In fact, it can be said that what I described is not this man at all." But, the living source that inspired me the Pasazade I described in the novel was the convicted forger Pasazade whom I met in prison. He was different from criminals like Tevfik. Pasazade, like the others, did not console himself by saying, "What can he do, this is my fate... This is my fate..." He made up a more humane justification for his crime to silence his conscience; He used to say:
There was only one way left: Forgery...
I had no other hope, I had to forge...
All roads were closed to me, there was only one way in front of me.
>That's why I named this novel "The Only Way". That's why I wanted to write the novel of "those who are helpless" or "those who think they are helpless."
