Our Sentence - All His Poems
He is the only poet in our last twenty-five years of poetry who has waited for death longingly, without any fear or recoil, with complete faith and submission, because he cherishes the little things inside him. This devotion to God made him a fan of white. There is no dirt or stain in his poems. These are pure, pure, clean poems, far from worldly dirt; As pure as his memories, loyalty and love.
-Behçet Necatigil-
The poetry of Ziya Osman Saba, who joined the Yedi Mesale movement as the youngest writer of the group, is in a line extending from Ahmet Hasim to Necip Fazil and Tanpinar. In this sense, it is close to the Dağlarca poem. Dağlarca's questions about God and life are also Ziya Osman Saba's questions. On the other hand, the influences of Verlaine and generally French symbolist poetry are observed in Saba's poems. But its themes, sadness and lyricism are local. Sometimes pious submission, being content with what is, childhood memories and the passing of time, sometimes social criticism, love for children, longing for a more beautiful and livable world are the main themes of his mature period poems. In his unpretentious-looking poems, which have common features in terms of substance and form with Cahit Sitki's poetry, the poet's bright, honest, emotional voice can be heard with broken sayings that sometimes remind of Necatigil.
