Present Tenses
I have reason to think that God finally took pity on me and decided to help me. My husband doesn't even touch me. He doesn't approach me or look at my face. We sleep in separate rooms and try not to come across each other. In the early hours of that morning, after gorging on the breakfast I had prepared at the kitchen table and leaving, I throw away the black sheet I was wearing and throw it in a corner of the house. I'm going back to my bed, to go back to ten years of my life, where I think of each moment carefully, lovingly, trembling with longing, as if I were running my hands over a thin silk. I close my eyes and start living again.
