Progressive Women's Association 1975-1980 Book Description: "For security, it could have been tried to destroy these documents belonging to IKD, as many people did at that time. But this method was not chosen. All these documents were in a house in the city center, in Nişantaşı. The safe place was where Ayşe's parents were." It was a house with a garden where they lived in Tuzla, outside Istanbul. First, the permission of the elderly parents was obtained. Like many mothers and fathers at that time, they took this risk. The problem is now that they took these documents from the heart of the city, in this city under martial law, where soldiers frequently searched. It was dangerous to carry at least 20 large boxes full of documents and magazines out of the apartment. At that time, it was undoubtedly thought that it would be best to have one of them move out of the house and place these documents inside the boxes loaded with household goods. A search would have found documents, but to save face, a truck was rented to carry household goods. And Ayşe and her belongings with the truck! He took him to his parents' house and placed him there. Years passed. The basement of the house was flooded and some of the documents were damaged. The garden house was demolished and an apartment building was built instead, and this time the documents were moved to the basement of that apartment building." From today's perspective, the reason we made the effort to preserve these documents was actually to preserve our own history. The existence of these documents, above all, helps us better evaluate a past experience and become a part of the history of the women's movement. Our aim was to contribute to the history of IKD not being forgotten. As a result, after 40 years, we have realized this dream. We think that this book will make a truly valuable contribution to the study of women's history and will also honor the thousands of women in red scarves who are members of IKD who created this history.
