Prussian Blue-The Adventures of Detective Bernie Güntherin 12
French Riviera, 1956: Deputy Chief of the East German Secret Police Stasi, former Nazi Erich Mielke, appears before detective Günther, who works in a hotel under a different name in Nice, and forces him to accept a dangerous and brutal mission. The second unpleasant surprise for Günther, who is trying to get rid of his past, is that he will work with Korsch, his former assistant and now the man of the Stasi, whom he does not trust at all. His encounter with Korsch takes Günther back 17 years to 1939.
Germany, 1939: A low-level bureaucrat is found dead in Adolf Hitler's Bavarian chalet. Before the leader of the Third Ray comes to this house to celebrate his fiftieth birthday, detective Günther, who reluctantly works for the Nazis, has only a week to find the killer with Korsch.
While the story oscillates between these two times, Kerr masterfully blends this dual fiction, draws the reader into the narrative by gradually increasing the dose of tension, and brings the whole event to an end that is both surprising and believable.
