Stendhal [Marie-Henri Beyle] (1783-1842): He entered the army as a lieutenant at a young age and participated in Napoleon's campaigns in Italy and Russia. He served in various military positions in Germany, Austria and Russia. He was involved in trade in Marseille for a while and served as consul in Trieste for a while. This great work called Red and Black by Stendhal, who is considered one of the most important representatives of the realism movement in French literature, was first published in 1830. The novel draws a complete portrait of the Restoration Period, which began after Napoleon's exile, by focusing on the fears and passions of its romantic protagonist, Julien Sorel. The Red and the Black earned Stendhal the title of inventor of the psychological novel, with its strong and technically advanced psychological depictions of its characters.
