Red and Black - World Classics Book Description Henri Beyle Stendhal's novel Red and Black is one of the author's two strongest and most prominent works. The other of these two works is considered to be the Parma Monastery. The work describes the ambitions of Julien Sorel, who was passionate about rising under the current conditions of Restoration France, the crises he experienced, the Catholic Church, libertarians and royalists, blending them with a love story.
