Red Star Over China
Red Star Over China is one of the fundamental books written on the Chinese revolution. The author of the book, Edgar Snow, is an American journalist who spent 14 years in China. During these years, he learned Chinese, deepened his knowledge of Chinese history, and closely examined and observed China's social structure and political environment. Based on this rich background information and vivid observations, he created this book about the Chinese revolution and the guerrilla struggle led by the Communist Party. Snow secretly went to the besieged Red region and got to know the peasants and Red Army soldiers who were the mainstay of the guerrilla war that spanned ten years; He had the opportunity to have long conversations with revolutionary leaders, especially Mao Zedong, Co Enlay and Lin Biyao. The only person Mao Zedong told his life story to was Edgar Snow.
"Red Star Over China does several things at once: First, we encounter a colorful, exciting travel and memoir spanning three months. Second, it examines the strategy and tactical problems of the early stages of the Chinese revolution and a critical turning point, from the perspective of the leaders of the revolution (through the lens of the author). Thus, we observe a great historical transformation that determines the fate of the 20th century and today; moreover, we can discover some traces and signs of the later development directions; especially Mao, CCP leaders, We follow many 'unsung heroes' and ordinary Chinese laborers and soldiers. I think readers will realize from the first page that they have encountered a brilliant work that combines different fields such as memoirs, biographical elements, journalism and historiography."
