Carlo Goldoni (1707-1793): He caused radical changes in Italian theater with his works and laid the cornerstones of contemporary theatre. The first example of the transition from improvisation to written plays is Girolamo the Courtier, written in 1738. In this play, only the role of the main character is written. The Honest Woman, staged in 1743, is a completely written text. Goldoni removed the classical characters and masks in the theater and brought the characters, passions and events encountered in daily life to the stage. It reflected the characteristic features of various social layers and underlined the behavior of individuals according to the social class they belong to. The Restaurant Woman, which tells the story of a young girl from the common people's tricks on noble gentlemen who want to marry her and the tricks she turns to persuade them, is among Goldoni's most well-known works.
