Revolution in the Ottoman Empire and Self-Sacrificing Nation Book Description: In the 19th century, when the Ottoman society met modern politics, "citizens" who wanted to participate in the use of sovereignty emerged. The central government resisted these "conspiratorial" demands of the Ottomans, who had different ethnic, religious, class and social origins, with bans and penalties. II insisted on maintaining the traditional Ottoman management approach. Abdulhamid not only resorted to new "methods" to neutralize his opponents, but also popularized old forms of punishment. Censorship, journal and spy organizations, the punishment of "exile" and "tyranny" constituted the basic pillars of the administration. As the oppressive government collapsed with the 1908 Revolution, political freedoms began to be used by Ottoman citizens. “Declaration of freedom”, II. It allowed the Young Turks, who were exiled to various provinces of the empire or had to flee abroad during the reign of Abdulhamid, to return to their homeland. However, the political victims, who could not receive the attention they expected from the Committee of Union and Progress, organized under the name of "Fedakâran-ı Millet Cemiyeti" and embraced the flag of opposition against both the rulers of the despotic period and the rulers of the new regime. II. This book, which is about the "struggle to seek justice" of exiles and fugitives in the first years of the Constitutional Monarchy, also tries to shed light on the lives of the "victims" of a form of punishment inherited from the empire to the Republic. Hasan Taner Kerimoğlu is a faculty member at Dokuz Eylül University.
