Aristotle (384-323 BC): One of the most important and versatile philosophers of Ancient Greece. He was a student of Plato, teacher of Alexander the Great, and founder of the Lykeion School. It influenced Jewish, Christian and Muslim thinkers in the Middle Ages, and its influence spread through the Renaissance, Reformation and Enlightenment periods. His extant texts on biology, physics, chemistry, psychology, ethics, logic, metaphysics, rhetoric, poetry, philosophy of science and political theory are considered among the founding texts in these fields. Since education in ancient Greece included eloquence, which was very important in social and political life, Aristotle also gave lectures on rhetoric in Lykeion and wrote notes and books. His most important work on this subject that has survived to the present day is the work known as Rhetoric. Stating that eloquence is an art, Aristotle gives the definition of rhetoric in this work, indicates its types and elements, and explains how to prepare a successful speech with long explanations and examples.
