In this book, we present the Sanskrit originals of two works in poetry form, Ritusamhāra (Passage of Seasons) and Meghadūta (Messenger Cloud), by Kālidāsa, who is thought to have lived in the 4th century AD and is referred to as India's Shakespeare, as one of the most important representatives of Sanskrit literature. Includes translations by Yalçın Kayalı.

Consisting of one hundred and forty-four shlokas (couplets) and six chapters, Ritusamhāra, the only example of the pastoral poetry genre in Sanskrit literature, is a work of youth in which the spiritual and physical state of the lover, changing according to the seasons, is described with a profound lyricism revealed by Kālidāsa's literary genius. This lyrical feast, decorated with flawless descriptions, offers its readers, in a literary context, very important clues about the place of various states of love, such as love, passion and lust, in the Indian emotional world.

Meghadūta, consisting of one hundred and twenty-one shlokas, is important as it is the first example of works in the Dūtakāvya genre, in which the same emotions are conveyed to the spouse or lover through an intermediary or messenger. To the extent that the work is written, it adds a special value to poetry because it conveys the feeling of love and longing with magnificent words and a partially melodic style of expression.

Kalidasa occupies an important place in world literature with his superior creative ability, imagination, intelligence, extraordinary fluency in his poems and high culture. Indian culture and intellectual life come to life through his works. So much so that he draws attention with his ability to skillfully depict every element and all forms of nature, from the highest mountains to the smallest flower.
