School Conditions of Immigrant Children Book Description Istanbul Kültür University Publishing House; He brought together with the readers a book that examines the phenomenon of "migration", which has become one of the hot topics on the world agenda with the refugees migrating from the Middle East to the West, this time from the perspective of children. Prepared by Richard Alba and Jennifer Holdaway and translated into Turkish by Menekşe Tokyay, School Conditions of Immigrant Children questions the educational lives of children of families migrating to the West in their new "homeland" and compares the integration and adaptation processes in Europe and North America. The book took its place on the shelves in September 2017 under the label of İKÜ Publishing House. ***What does immigrant children mean for the host country? Immigration is a phenomenon whose consequences cannot be predicted with certainty for many societies, both immigrant and host. For decades, migration from Africa, Asia, the Middle East or Latin America to the wealthy countries of the West, due to wars, economic and political crises, ethnic discrimination and many other reasons, has been challenging the societies of North America and Europe. The future of developed societies with high levels of prosperity; How will it be affected by the young and dynamic population of immigrants? Since the education of children raised or born by immigrant families in the 'new country' is one of the main determinants of that future, what is the school situation of these immigrant children like and how should it be? Based on these and similar questions, the Social Sciences Research Council discussed the education and social adaptation processes of immigrant children in the country they settled in, with a comparative study conducted in a total of six countries on both sides of the Atlantic. Different countries, different education systems have received significant immigration since the mid-twentieth century until today. The book, based on a comparison of six countries, compares the educational lives of children of immigrant families in France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the USA. The qualitative and quantitative research in the book examines the functioning of education systems in different countries for immigrant children, and includes the differences and similarities between these countries. What kind of events and situations do these children encounter in the face of different languages, cultural values and material conditions? So, how do they continue on their way? Detailed and versatile research conducted by the Social Sciences Research Council in a total of six countries on both sides of the Atlantic provides detailed and versatile data on the above questions. This study, which deals with examples in North American and European countries, is also for our country Turkey, which is affected by migrations in the Middle East. It will be an important reference source. (From the Promotional Bulletin)
