Everything started on a cold day in February 2001, when Maya Duran (36), who worked as a public relations officer at Istanbul University, welcomed Professor Maximilian Wagner (87), of German origin, who had come from the USA.

Upon the request of the professor, who had taught at Istanbul University in the 1930s, Maya took him to Şile one day. Thus, he not only gets involved in a touching love story that slowly unfolds, but also learns some secrets about world history and his own family.

Serenad, while dealing with a love affair that has been going on for 60 years, also reveals the fact that in all political problems, whether it is the Jewish Holocaust that everyone knows or the Blue Regiment that very few people know, it is always people who are really wasted and make a fuss.

In Serenad, which grips its reader tightly, one of the most fundamental qualities of Zülfü Livaneli's novelism plays the leading role once again: the perfect balance of intertwined, fused personal and social histories.
