The Spontaneously Evolving Cosmos demonstrates that contemporary theoretical physics demonstrates that scientific progress has shifted critically from the stance of Cartesian philosophy to a phenomenological stance that transcends the subject-object distinction. The author broadly examines the ideas and implications of phenomenological philosophy and compares them with positivist philosophy. Rosen sees in phenomenology meaning that arises from the hermeneutic interactions of participants in an evolving lifeworld, the dynamic context of a lived experience. Emphasizing that doing science and doing philosophy is a joint effort in phenomenological physics, he shows that the fusion of science and philosophy leads to a new physics that offers new solutions to ongoing problems.
