He could replace Hayri Bey after his retirement, that's all. Maybe he wouldn't be able to leave the basement for the rest of his life. (...) People like Hayri Bey will pollute the little joys of life that he had as a little person and could happily be content with; And the higher-ups would despise the ordinary sensibilities that they actually needed, that they were eager to adopt, or at least to feel existed, because they could reinforce their privileges with contempt. No one would allow him to rejoice.

In Steppe Flowers, he walks through the Ankara of the 70s with his heroes who were hopelessly lonely even though they did not choose loneliness. Selçuk Baran: From the eyes of Seyfi, Nurten and Müfit, whose paths intersect in the middle of the steppe. , paints a picture that is sometimes hopeful, sometimes enthusiastic, but mostly sad.

Selçuk Baran won an honorable mention in the 1979 Milliyet Publications Novel Competition with Bozkır Çiçekleri.
