Nelly Sachs, who started writing poetry when she was a child and was seen to be influenced by Christian mystical understanding in her first poems, found her true identity as a poet after the Second World War. In the poems she wrote both in Germany, during the years when the Nazi administration did not grant Jews the right to live, and in Sweden, where she lived until her death, Nelly Sachs reflected the horrific experiences of those years with a unique sensitivity.

Nelly Sachs's poetry is tightly woven, so rigid yet clear that it does not easily yield to interpretation. It deals with a language that was recreated with great difficulty by someone who was speechless due to what he experienced and saw; That's why the language of riddles is also the riddles of language. "Images, ferns, became my wounds, death became my master. I wrote to survive," said Nelly Sachs.
