Struggle for Domination in the Middle East - Ottoman Mamluk War 1485-1491
According to Shai Har-El, between the 9th and 15th centuries there were three Islamic powers: the Ottomans, the Mamluks, and the Akkoyunlu. It covered the Byzantine Empire and the Balkan states within the Ottoman Empire, the Middle East, and the history of Islam from Iran to Africa. Moreover, not only the rise of national monarchies and Protestantism in the West, but also the development of capitalism and certain industries cannot be explained without the Ottomans.
In the same period, the Mamluk state, which had the support of the Abbasids, was the protector of the holy Islamic cities of Mecca and Medina.
These two states were in a constant war, especially over the Silk Road and the sacred cities, and the principalities that formed the buffer zone in between were changing sides according to their own interests. The relentless struggle for political and economic dominance between the two Muslim and Turkish superpowers of the period resulted in bloody wars.
