Struggle for Influence in the Ottoman Empire (Hardcover)
The history of Ottoman railways with its story, documentary and music.
The construction of railways in the Ottoman country was carried out with the privileges given by the state to foreign companies. The construction of the lines extending from Istanbul to Baghdad was at the center of attention not only of the Ottoman administrators, but also of the European great powers who were looking for different ways to reach the Middle East and the Indian Ocean. The construction of the Anatolian and Baghdad railways went beyond the construction of a train line and turned into a struggle for diplomacy and influence. Against the Ottoman Empire, England, Germany, France, Russia, the USA and Belgium had embarked on a long-lasting major political, economic and diplomatic game to consolidate their sphere of influence in the Middle East through these railways.
Enriched with more than 300 photographs, paintings, maps and caricatures from the period, the book tells in full detail the curious story of this struggle that took place over railways, with documents compiled from the archives of six different countries. Accompanied by the book, the 10-episode Railway Documentary in two DVDs, published on TRT in 2000 and whose texts were also written by the author, and the Railway Folk Songs CD prepared by the author, who is also a musician, with the group Reflection of Light are also presented to the reader.
