The Adventures of Misfit Defne Kaman - Water

Journalist Defne Kaman disappears on the ferry she boarded one summer evening, leaving no trace behind. Commissioner Ali Ümit, who is responsible for searching for him, and his friend Sahaf Semahat suddenly find themselves among strange events and mysterious symbols. While trying to survive despite the prohibitions and taboos that cripple their lives, they are dragged into a breathless adventure in pursuit of the missing journalist Defne Kaman.

Buket Uzuner, in her novel SU, describes the ancient Turk who blesses nature and life by accepting all living beings as of equal value. While saluting the tradition of Kamanlik (Samanlik), it invites the readers to both an eco-feminist reading and mind games with the KUTADGU BILIG CIRCULAR (Knowledge of Happiness), which is thought to have been written in proto-Turkic with Uyghur letters 1000 years ago.

While writing the novel SU, the author had the chance to examine closely the first of the three known original copies of Kutadgu Bilig, Yusuf Has Hacib, who is thought to have written it in Turkish with Uyghur letters, and Prof. who translated this important work into modern Turkish in 1947. He commemorates Resit Rahmeti Arat with gratitude and hopes that this beautiful work, which has not received the importance and love it deserves in Turkey and the world until now, will attract attention, especially among young people, by using it as if it were a book of passwords in the novel.
