Sabahattin Ali's second novel, The Devil Within Us, criticizes the individual and society within the framework of a sad love story between Ömer and Macide. In his novel, Sabahattin Ali portrays a weak, lazy and irresponsible individual with the character of Ömer; At the same time, through Nihat, whom Ömer knew from university, and the individuals around him, impersonal, power-hungry, cowardly groups; It tells the story of Macide's teacher Bedri, a modern intellectual with personality, right thinking and socialism. In this context, while the novel presents the individual and the evil within individuals as devils with the character of Ömer, it sees the evils done by Nihat and the groups around Nihat as devils within society.
