Dirty Others of New Racism: Kurds, Alevis, Armenians Book Description

Despite all the measures aimed at limiting, controlling and even banning discriminatory practices regarding class, race, ethnicity and gender, discrimination continues to be an important problem that has changed its form and infiltrated daily life, but its visibility has decreased. Indirect forms of discrimination continue to be produced, especially through judgments that hide themselves in the messages disseminated by the media about almost every aspect of daily life, and that get lost between the lines of an ordinary, irrelevant news or text, but can well be described as racist when looked at closely.

This study undertakes the obligation to make this new form of racist discourse visible. In the book, the ways in which racism and discrimination, which are placed behind "ambiguous" appearances and often hidden between the lines, take place in the daily conversations of "ordinary people" who follow the media in some way, are revealed and the curtain of the new racism is opened. It is examined how ordinary media followers construct new racist discourses in their daily lives, and how the new racist ideology functions as a fantasy through the ethnic, religious and sexual differences of the "other".

By articulating discriminatory ideologies, the "old" racism, which is based on biological foundations, is more sexist, nationalist, etc., based on its hateful expressions against Kurds, Alevis, Armenians, women, and different sexual orientations. It traces how the concept transformed and what meanings it took on in the process that evolved into the "new" racism produced by the alliance of ideologies.

The Dirty Others of New Racism: Kurds, Alevis, Armenians This book tells the life story of Dervish Dennis, who was saddled with adult responsibilities at a very young age. Like many children whose fathers work as workers in Germany, Derviş grows up away from his father. Derviş defines this situation as growing up without a ruler in a dominant society. Growing up without male role models left deep marks on me. I always felt incomplete. It pained me to observe my friends receiving attention from their fathers, grandfathers or brothers. I lived with the dream of being able to taste that feeling, and this emptiness followed me throughout my life. 'When Derviş turned eighteen, he met a girl living in Sweden, got engaged and moved to Sweden after a short wait for a visa. Since neither his new family nor the institutions he encounters inform him about the functioning of society, his rights and responsibilities, it will be impossible for him to integrate into society. Despite his two cousins living in Sweden, the feeling of loneliness haunts Derviş for many years. Because her husband's family has strictly banned her from meeting people outside the family. Knowing that her fiancée is not interested in Derviş, they force the young people to marry. When it comes to breaking up, the father-in-law, who believes that his honor has been tarnished, goes so far as to cut the brake cables of Derviş's car. This book tells how an innocent young man from the countryside turned into a criminal and his efforts to escape from this life. Currently, Derviş is working to prevent young people from getting involved in crime at the institution he founded under the name of x-cons Haninge and which is now called Sweden Vision Center. He guides other young people in the identity of the person he hopes to have met the day he arrived in Sweden. See Me sheds light on social problems that still affect Swedish society, such as gang crimes, honor-related violence, exclusion and inadequate integration, and gives important clues on ways to prevent future problems by intervening in young people's problems in a timely manner.
