The Gambler - Hasan Ali Yücel Classics
Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky (1821-1881): His first novel, Humanities, was published in 1846. Famous critic V. Byelinski spoke of Dostoyevsky as the great writer of the future upon this work. However, although his later published works are among the literary classics of our time, they did not attract much attention at that time. The writer was arrested in 1849 on the grounds that he was a member of the Petrashevsky group opposed to the oppressive regime of Nicholas I. While he was about to be shot, his sentence was commuted to exile and compulsory military service. He regained his fame with the novels he wrote after his Siberian exile. In The Gambler, Dostoyevsky depicted the depths of the human soul with great power as he described passionate love and passion for gambling together.
