The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

At one end of the Western Spiral Arm of the Galaxy, in a remote, uncharted corner of the galaxy, there is a small, yellow sun, hidden from view. Orbiting this sun is a small, completely insignificant, blue-green planet. The planet's ape-descended creatures are so primitive that they still think the digital wristwatch is a very impressive invention. This planet had a problem: Most of the people living on it were unhappy most of the time. Many solutions were proposed for this problem, but most of them had to do with the movements of small pieces of paper, usually green in color. This was strange, too, because it wasn't the little green pieces of paper that were actually unhappy. Therefore the problem continued to exist; Most of the people were poorly off, and most of them were miserable, even those with digital wristwatches. First of all, the number of people who thought they had made a big mistake by coming down from the trees was increasing day by day. Nearly two thousand years later, on a Thursday, a terrible, stupid disaster occurred. This book is the story of some of the consequences of that disaster. Moreover, what should not be forgotten is this: You are in the first book of the series and it is approaching a Thursday again, the weekend is almost here.
