Edirne Sukûtunun İç Yüzü
- Prepared by: Metin Yüksel
The book titled 'The Inner Face of Edirne Silence', written by brothers Celadet and Kamiran Bedirxan in 1913, when they were in their 20s, was published in the Latin alphabet among Avesta publications. The book prepared by Metin Yüksel sheds light on the romantic youth of these two important actors of Kurdish culture, and therefore the formation period of Kurdish nationalism. These fiery lines were taken from the book: “The answer to the question why did Edirne remain silent is the same as the answer to the question why did the Ottoman Empire remain silent? We kindly ask everyone and every citizen who will read these lines. For the sake of the love of the country and in the name of the spirituality of faith, let them recite hatred and revenge in their hearts, as condemned in the great inscription on the grave of a great martyr (Not mercy for those who are alive, not mercy for those who died)!.. Let them recite it so that Ottomanism will remain and Islam will endure.“
The Inside Face of the Edirne Silence describes the fall of Edirne to the Bulgarians during the First Balkan War, which took place in 1912-13. In this war, the Ottoman Empire "experienced the fastest loss of territory in its history." The fact that it was written by two figures who played very important roles in the 20th century Kurdish political and cultural history, Celadet and Kamiran Bedirxan, makes the book even more interesting.
While presenting the book, Doctor Abdullah Cevdet states the following: "The Inner Face of Edirne Silence" is a chickpea remedy made for the benefit of some of Turkey. But the chickpea stuck in the mouth of this wound is from fire. This fire will feed the wound and make Turkey feel that it is alive and that there is a threat of death.
