The Invention of the Image is a book in which conceptual history and poetry theory, canon discussion and literary history are intertwined. Yalçın Armağan, who previously examined the historical reasons why modernist poetry was met with aesthetic resistance in Impossible Autonomy, discusses in this book how the resistance to the Second New was broken over time and how poems that were initially deemed meaningless were accepted under the name of imagist poetry.

Focusing on the highly controversial period in poetry between 1952 and 1983, he focuses not on defining the image; It pursues how the concept of image emerged, why this concept was needed, and what arguments were put forward to legitimize the proposition that poetry is the art of imagery.

The Invention of the Image not only offers an alternative history of poetry by interpreting the Second New in terms of the transformation of the concept of image, but also proposes a method for analyzing the literary institution.
