The Play Urge
Juli Zeh, whom we know from Eagles and Angels, tells the story of two extraordinary students, Ada and Alev, who meet each other at a private school in Bonn and who have replaced ideas, ideologies, religions, belief in peace, human rights and democracy with pragmatism. The story of half-Egyptian Alev, who has learned from her father that people's decisions are actually a perfectly rehearsed game and who thinks that game is her last form of existence, and Ada, who finds acquiring qualifications, that lying, attractive and easy way of creating herself, unnecessary and expresses her hatred for stupidity with poisonous words... This duo, who define themselves as the grandchildren of nihilists, decide to satisfy their game urges, the only thing left in the hands of those whose value judgments have been taken away from them, on their teacher, who has fled from Poland, and begin to blackmail Smutek, whose interest in Ada they are abusing.
