The Secret History of Byzantium
Back Cover Text (From the Promotional Bulletin)
Procopius is an important historian whose work On Wars is considered the primary source on the period of Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian I. He participated in the campaigns of the Eastern Roman army together with General Belisarius, recorded his observations, compiled them into an eight-volume book and presented it to the Emperor. The Secret History of Byzantium contains the true feelings and thoughts about Emperor Justinian, Empress Theodora, Belisarius and his wife Antonina, and the narration of scandalous events that Procopius did not dare to include in this work. It is understood that the historian wrote this work to be published after his death.
