The Temptation of Innocence Western people, who rose within a period of a few centuries by denying all community affiliations in economic, social, political and religious senses, deified the individual since the last century, and freed themselves from their last ties with the decline, at least in appearance, of both the social state, ideologies and social class conflicts at the end of the 20th century. Now, he expresses the pain of being alone in this temple of "freedom" that he has built for himself. In The Seduction of Innocence, focusing mainly on the West, but more on Europe, Pascal Bruckner examines the final point reached by the individual in modernity, and puts the Western man and woman on the target with his ironic narrative. The author, who considers the struggle with individualism as a disease whose main symptom is avoiding the consequences of actions, also explains his diagnosis as follows; "I call trying to benefit from the blessings of freedom without enduring its troubles as innocence. This innocence develops in two directions: childishness and victimization." Bruckner shows the "child" factor, which he describes as the new idol of the West for a hundred years, the new little family God, with the consumer society and the entertainment industry based on the principle of constant surprise and unlimited satisfaction, as the other leg of innocence. Under the title of "victimization", he examines why everyone, from individuals to people, follows a victimization strategy on the planet, which has become a "global village", and the role that the news production model of the media and especially television plays in this trend. Bruckner, in this work of his, plays the role of the devil's advocate. It poses a lot of questions to 'ordinary people' and 'chronic' dissidents that will make them think and review themselves.
