Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy was born in Istanbul in 1949. He graduated from the German High School and Istanbul University Faculty of Chemistry, specialized in biochemistry and received a doctorate in medical sciences. He received national and international awards for his contribution to crime scene investigation, the development of crime laboratories and DNA analysis. In addition to being a faculty member at Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, he was the head of the Chemical Analysis Specialization Department of the Forensic Medicine Institute of the Ministry of Justice between 1980 and 1993, and the director of the Istanbul University Forensic Medicine Institute between 1987 and 2005, and continued as a faculty member until 2009. Between 2005 and 2009, he wrote weekly forensic science articles in Hürriyet newspaper. Prof. Atasoy was a member of the United Nations International Drug Control Board between 2005 and 2010 and served as the chairman of the board. Atasoy is also the executive of the Victimization Project, the concept owner and story consultant of the television program Evidence, and the owner of Teşvikiye Laboratory, IFSS (International Forensic Science Services) and S. Atasoy-Ekinci consultancy companies.
