Bağdat'a Geldiler
Agatha Christie, one of the world's most famous writers, meets the readers once again with her novel They Came to Baghdad, which has been translated into Turkish for the first time.
Agatha Christie, one of the successful names of the detective genre, draws attention to an interesting duo in They Came to Baghdad: the USA and the USSR. The author builds the main plot of the novel on the endless economic wars of these two great powers.
It was decided that the secret meeting of the super powers would be held in Baghdad. However, Baghdad is not a safe place for the future of the meeting and, more importantly, for the future of the world. Secret agents of the USA and the USSR are determined to continue the life-or-death war they have been waging for many years in Baghdad, and they have started to make their plans without any hesitation. This time, it will be up to a young hero to solve the riddle of the novel; Undoubtedly, the author wanted it that way, and although she is not as famous as Christie's other heroines, Victoria is at least as smart and efficient as them.
Victoria Jones
Victoria, an Englishwoman, is a cute, mischievous young lady who is also incompetent as a secretary. He likes to imitate people and often lie - much of which is a product of his imagination. One morning, when he is fired from his job, he is unaware that his fate has drawn him a line where he can use his imagination to the fullest; Until she meets the handsome young Edward... The two young people meet in FitzJames Park. -From now on, the author will have a big surprise for both his readers and Victoria.- Because everything was planned long ago by the agents of the two great powers.
Other important heroes include Mr. Dakin and Henry Carmichael - the key hero of the novel - who lost his life for the sake of world peace. A piece of communism is also mentioned in the fiction of the novel; An institution he named Olive Branch also shares the author's approach to communism.
fight for peace
What is in question is the real evidence that Carmichael collected during his travels in China, Turkestan, Kurdistan and Iraq, all of which are about metal ores and high uranium. However, unfortunately, the plans of the agents who do not hesitate to risk a great world war to obtain these underground riches are thwarted. At least the author wanted it to be like this and presented the reader with an exciting detective story in which he explains all this at great speed. Sheikh Hüseyin el Ziyara, who appears on the last page of the novel - and is undoubtedly one of the surprising heroes - defends 'peace' in his own language and with his own life reality.
-Meanwhile, the author does not hesitate to state in the last sentence of the novel that the outcome will not be peace; “After a moment of silence, a small voice spoke with the careless impersonality of the bureaucracy: 'These facts will be conveyed to the President of the United States and the Leader of the USSR...'”
The happiest hero of the novel is Victoria; Agatha Christie does not leave her young hero alone in Baghdad, where love drags him. A new job and a new love awaits Victoria.
