Üç Örnek Öykü ve Bir Önsöz - Ciltli Kitap
Miguel de Unamuno (1864-1936), one of the writers of the "Generation of '98", which Laín Entralgo describes as "the awakening of Spanish consciousness and personality", began publishing his essays and articles while teaching at the University of Salamanca, where he was appointed after completing his doctorate in philosophy at the Complutense University of Madrid. He was dismissed from his job because of his anti-government writings and was exiled to the island of Fuerteventura. However, with the foundation of the Republic in 1931, he was appointed rector of the same university.
According to Unamuno, mechanization has depersonalized man; he seeks a universe where technology has not entered; he is against civilization. He used inner dialogue before James Joyce.
Sometimes, individuals, the writer and the reader talk and discuss each other. Unamuno mocks the scientific nature of the novel, claiming that literary works are a tool to explain certain intuitions of the author. In some of his works, the longing for immortality prevails, sometimes he rebels against God, and sometimes he submits to fate. He uses a rich and meticulous language in all his works; has achieved a perfect balance by only letting crazy people utter rude and ugly words.
