Time of Silence Book Description Luis Martín-Santos, in his work, Time of Silence, which has become one of the cornerstones of Spanish literature despite being censored and banned for years, presents a panorama of post-war Spain that is tossing under the shadow of the Franco dictatorship, at least as devastating and striking as the Quernica painting. Using language as a revolutionary tool, Martín-Santos, in this work known as the Ulysses of Spanish literature, adds voice to the voices of all layers of the city suppressed by the regime with the stream of consciousness technique, instead of a linear narrative. In the midst of this human tragedy, the Falangist regime, which is spreading like a cancer, the people stuck in labyrinths like lab mice and clinging only to the values they have, the institution of family and marriage, intellectuality and science, traditional roles, ideal society, lumpen middle class and subculture, every social core that fascism has monotonized and artificialized.
