With HDP passing the 10% election threshold in the June 2015 elections, the Turkishization of the Kurdish movement began to be discussed more intensely by various circles. Some Kurdish circles, who describe themselves as independenceists, accused HDP and PKK of advocating this view and using the positions gained at great prices to follow colonialist Turkish politics in a new way. On the other hand, some writers who define themselves as leftists, democrats or liberals interpreted the policy of Turkisification as the expression of the Kurdish movement's tendency to abandon the nationalist views and behaviors it previously advocated and to establish a common life between Kurds and Turks. The common point of these two seemingly opposite approaches was that the parties did not base their claims on facts. In this book, Cemil Gündoğan analyzes the factual data of the Turkishization debate, places the issue in its historical context, and tries to shed light on the overlooked dimensions of the issue with the help of a theoretical discussion on the relations between the discourse and action of a social movement.
