While Europe turned into nation states with the disintegration of empires and transitioned to industrial capitalism after the Enlightenment, the Ottoman Empire always remained an ummah state. He could neither fully enter enlightenment nor catch the wind brought by industrial capitalism.
With the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, achievements such as enlightenment and industrialization breakthrough emerged. However, these were regulations brought by a progressive cadre, rather than achievements achieved as a result of social effort. For this reason, they were not fully embraced by society.
Although the socio-economic evolution in our country in the last hundred years was progressive at first, it later took on a much more complicated appearance. A large industrial bourgeoisie was never formed in our country. More of a tradesman bourgeoisie was formed. Capitalism has never surpassed crony capitalism. Türkiye has been drifting in an unstable balance, sometimes to the West, sometimes to the East, sometimes forward and sometimes backward.
This book aims to evaluate this complex and unstable change that Turkey has experienced since the Ottoman Empire.
