Yanardağın Altında
Famous English novelist Malcolm Lowry, who committed suicide in 1957 at the age of forty-eight, lived his entire short life like a race to the death. He traveled to many corners of the world, as if escaping from his troubles, alcoholism and bouts of insanity. According to Douglas Day, who wrote his biography, Lowry did not go crazy because he was an alcoholic, he took refuge in alcohol because he was crazy.
Under the Volcano, which Lowry wrote moment by moment between 1936 and 1944, is one of the most important novels of the 20th century. French publisher Martin Nadeau says the following about Under the Volcano, which enabled Lowry to join immortal creators such as Melville, Conrad and Fitzgerald: "Under the Volcano is a 'cult novel' that divides the world into those who follow it and those who do not."
