Batılı Gözler Altında
Under Western Eyes is the story of a young university student who finds himself in a spy network in pre-revolutionary Russia. In this masterpiece, Conrad describes the assassinations, political oppression and rebellions that marked the beginning of the 20th century, in pre-revolutionary St. It stretches from St. Petersburg to the spy-filled boulevards of Geneva. While it tells how ordinary people like young Razumov, who wanted to gain a place for himself in the Tsarist bureaucracy, were destroyed by the social and political turmoil in the world, it also focuses on the nature of the relationship between objectionable politicians exiled to cities such as Geneva and those who spied on behalf of the state there. With his political novels such as Under Western Eyes, Conrad has radically influenced our view of contemporary history and inspired the most famous writers of the genre such as Graham Greene and John le Carré.
"His books are full of deep prophecies. It's as if he couldn't write a bad novel even if he wanted to."
