Urfa - Mardin Line - Articles About My Homeland
Known for the important books he wrote on Islamic History, Prof. Dr. Adnan Demircan appeared before his readers with a different work this time. This book, which consists of evaluations about Mardin, where he spent half of his life of more than half a century, and Urfa, where he spent the other half, is titled Urfa-Mardin Line/Writings About My Homeland. Although this book published by Adnan Demircan contains historical and sociological values based on many scientific sources, it has a souvenir and promotional feature rather than an academic quality. As in many books written on cities, it is felt that the author's feeling of paying his debt of loyalty to the cities that have taken an important place in his life is dominant in this work.
Prof. Dr. Adnan Demircan, in his evaluation of the book; "There are important cities and cities in everyone's life. Urfa and Mardin have special places in my life, too. Urfa is where I went as a young research assistant and left as a lecturer who is over fifty years old, and Mardin is where I was born and lived until the end of my high school education. "My love for both cities continues. It seems that it will continue until I die," he says, drawing attention to the impact of this work on his life.
Urfa-Mardin Line starts with the introduction of Urfa. Later Hz. After emphasizing the relationship between Abraham and Urfa, evaluations of Harran and its surroundings according to the legends of Urfa and the Holy Bible are included. Then, after describing the Urfa example of religious buildings in Ottoman cities and Urfa through the eyes of Evliya Çelebi, the food and beverage culture, which is an integral part of Urfa, is explained.
Apart from these two cities that gave their name to the book, the neighboring cities of Diyarbakır and Siirt are also included on the Urfa-Mardin Line, due to the role they played in history.
The second part of the book consists of articles written on Mardin, especially Ömerli, the district where the author was born and raised. In this section, social, political and economic life in Ömerli district is examined. Then, there are evaluations on the Muallemis, one of the active elements in the region. The book ends with some considerations on Arabic proverbs, animal and plant names used in Ömerli.
Urfa-Mardin Hatti is a versatile book. It has extraordinary features that highlight history on one side, culture on the other, and the personal story of the author on the other.
